On 6 August, Italian journalist David Murgia published the results of a confidential 2016 consultation within the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith concerning the alleged apparitions at Medjugorje on IlSegnoDiGiona.com. Two Thirds of the Congregation Said Medjugorje was NOT Supernatural According to Murgia, 33 participants were asked to provide written opinions, or 'vota', on the Medjugorje phenomenon. Murgia reports the following results (17 September 2016): 21 participants chose 'constat de non supernaturalitate' (not of supernatural origin). 9 participants chose 'constat de supernaturalitate' (supernatural origin). 3 chose 'non constat de supernaturalitate' (the supernatural character has not been established). Bishop Mark A. Eckman, 67, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will bring an end to the traditional Latin Mass at St. Titus Church in Aliquippa after nearly 20-years. Bishop Eckman was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh in 2021. In June 2025, Leo XIV promoted him to Bishop of Pittsburgh. In a letter dated 7 August (see below), Monsignor Eckman announced that the final Mass to be held at St. Titus using the 1962 Missal is scheduled for 4 September. The remaining two traditional Latin Masses in Pittsburgh are offered by the Institute Christ the King in Brighton Heights and by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X in the West End. Bishop Eckman said his predecessor, Bishop David A. Zubik, received Vatican permission in 2022 to continue the Mass at St. Titus. Cardinal Baldassarre Reina, Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome, refused permission for the Catholic funeral of Bruno Battisti D’Amario, a guitarist and senior figure in Italian freemasonry. D’Amario, who died on August 5 aged 88, was known for his collaboration with Ennio Morricone and played guitar on famous soundtracks including A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and Once Upon a Time in the West. His funeral had initially been approved at Santa Maria in Montesanto, Rome’s “Church of the Artists.” After his death, however, the Grand Orient of Italy revealed that D’Amario had held significant roles within freemasonry. There are some words that once occupied a central place in the life of the Catholic Church but are now seldom heard, and I want to talk about one of those words today. The word is “modernism.” Ask the average Catholic today what modernism is, and many will not know how to answer. Ask when they last heard a sermon about it, and many would say, “Never.” Yet there was a time when the Church regarded modernism as such a grave danger that Pope St. Pius X devoted an entire encyclical to exposing it. In 1907, in Pascendi Dominici Gregis, he called modernism “the synthesis of all heresies.” Those are extraordinary words. Popes do not use language like that lightly. If St. Pius X believed modernism was the synthesis of all heresies, then a question naturally follows: What happened? Did modernism simply disappear? The Trump administration is crafting a new nuclear strategy aimed at giving the president more “credible” options to use short-range tactical nuclear weapons in a regional conflict with Russia or China, NBC reports. The doctrine is being shaped by Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby, a long-time advocate of expanding the role of tactical nuclear weapons. His argument is that smaller, lower-yield warheads could be used against battlefield forces and military targets rather than cities. That distinction sounds reassuring until you get to the obvious problem: once nuclear weapons are treated as usable battlefield tools, the line separating conventional war from nuclear war gets much thinner. Critics warn that broadening their role could normalize nuclear weapons use and lower the threshold for escalation. Brigitte Stegemann was an 83-year-old great-grandmother and a Christian. On July 10, she died through Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program in Ontario. Diagnosed with terminal Stage IV stomach cancer, Stegemann had wanted to die naturally. But while her granddaughter and longtime legal representative, Brigitte Kranendonk, was away on vacation, medical personnel discussed MAiD with Stegemann. She was subsequently deemed capable of choosing MAiD despite allegedly being unable to answer basic questions about her own family. Canadian Catholic News reported that Kranendonk said her grandmother had originally rejected MAiD but was persuaded to request it during her absence. When Kranendonk returned and asked her grandmother whether she really wanted to die, Stegemann’s reaction was heartbreaking. “I’m supposed to die on Friday?
