Canada's Bill C-9, the Combatting Hate Act, is another veiled attack on Christian belief. It changes the criminal code to include measures to fight hate propaganda and hate-motivated crimes. The law creates new criminal offences for obstructing and intimidating access to places of worship, schools, seniors' residences and the display of hate symbols in public places. Readers may have already realized the problem with such law: who gets to define the meaning of "hate"? To get a better idea of what the law could mean once passed we can look at the recent guilty decision against Finnish MP Paivi Rasanen. She expressed her Christian views in a pamphlet and for that she was convicted of "insulting" speech. When this happens everyone becomes afraid of speaking openly and freely.
